Indians Beat Red Sox 5-4

The Indians came back Monday at Fenway to defeat the Boston Red Sox 5-4 in the first game of a 4-game series between two division leaders. The Indians rolled into Boston coming off a win against Baltimore, facing a Red Sox team that has not lost consecutive games since July 24th.



With Cy Young winner Corey Kluber on the mound against fellow Cy Young winner Rick Porcello, the Red Sox jumped out to an early 3-0 lead. Xander Bogaerts started the scoring with a two=run single in the first and Andrew Benintendi provided an RBI single in the second.


Kluber maintained his composure by not allowing a run and only three hits over the next 4.1 innings before giving way to Oliver Perez.


The Indians began the rallied in the fifth with a Melky Cabrera solo shot. Center Fielder Greg Allen and outfielder Michael Brantley added two-run homers in the sixth and seventh innings. Perez, Adam Cimber, and Brad Hand held down the fort through until the ninth. Cody Allen allowed two hits in the ninth giving up one run before closing the door on the Red Sox.
