Steelers back running James Conner has shined this preseason and camp.
With the absence of LeVeon Bell from Steelers training camp this summer, the competition for more reps is fierce. However, despite more carries being available one back, in particular, has distinguished himself from the rest.
James Conner is putting together a fabulous preseason and is proving that not only is he the top back up to LeVeon Bell this season but the top candidate to replace Bell should he leave via free agency in 2019.

Conner has been the starting running back in each of the Steelers three preseason games, totaling 19 carries for 100 yards and a 1TD, including a 5 carry 57-yard performance in week 2 against the Eagles.
Connor has sieged the opportunity proving the Steelers right when they drafted him in the 3rd round of the 2017 draft. Listed at 6ft 1 233lbs, his build is not his only similarity to Bell. He has throughout this preseason not displayed excellent vision running between the tackles but good pass catching skills as well.
Connor is a hard-nosed running back that possesses good speed and hits the hole fast. He is not as elusive as Bell, but few are, but what he does give the Steelers is a reliable and productive back if LeVeon goes down or leaves. Though most fans and staff hope neither comes to pass, it is nice to have the luxury of a talented back like Conner waiting in the wings.
