One of the first quarterbacks to play beyond 40 was George Blanda, who retired in 1975 with the Oakland Raiders, 8 years past the age of 40. In the 98 years, the NFL has been in existence; only 19 quarterbacks have played to at least their 40th birthday. Of those 19, six were before 1990, 5 before 2000 and 8 since.

Lately, more quarterbacks are either talking about playing into their 40’s or are already approaching that age including Rodgers. The list includes current NFL QB's Ben Roethlisberger, Drew Brees, Josh McCown, Eli Manning, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Matt Cassel, Matt Schaub, Philip Rivers, and Now Aaron Rodgers.

Rodgers is one the top QB’s in the game. He is very much at the height of his career and still commands the respect of opposing defensive coordinators. At 34 years of age, he is still athletically gifted, very mobile, extremely accurate with a rocket arm and unique pocket pressence.

If he gets a more consistent running game and strong play from his defense, Rodgers can continue to lead the Packers to success. This will preserve Rodgers body and allow him to play until the age of 40 or at least until he chooses to retire.
