The summer of LeBron is upon us once again. Another drama filled free agency frenzy, full of uncertainties and “what if’s”. Will he leave or will he go? Where will he go and what does he want? The true question may not be what would make LeBron leave but what can the Cavaliers organization and its controversial owner present to persuade LeBron to stay?
For Surety
The Cavs are in a better position this time around than the last time LeBron was in the position to leave the team. The current roster of Cavaliers, while by most accounts are the worst supporting cast that LeBron has carried to the finals, are full of youth and potential. Larry Nance Jr., Rodney Hood, Jordan Clarkson, Cedi Osman, and Ante Zizic have all shown the potential that if cultivated, can be productive players in the future.
If nothing else, their recent playoff and championship experience will only further along their growth process. The Cavs also possess the 8th pick in this year’s NBA draft, a pick that was obtained via trade with the Boston Celtics in exchange for Kyrie Irving.
If the Cavs are willing to trade the pick along with players, they may very well be able to pull off a blockbuster deal.
The Main Key
If this time around, LeBron is willing to recruit other players to come to Cleveland, the Cavs can improve the team to challenge the Warriors. Maybe, he will pick up his discussions with George, and convince him that joining him in Cleveland would be his best opportunity to win a title.
Also, Cleveland may have to take a chance and try to improve the team before knowing exactly what James is going to do. Most of the trades will take place before or during the draft, weeks before James enters free agency. Once the Cavs select a player, the value of that pick decreases, which would be a risky move for the organization without knowing James intentions.
If Dan Gilbert is really willing to go all out to convince LeBron that another title can be won in Cleveland, many different things can be done to improve the team. However, Gilbert has already shown that he is willing to spend and trade. It is up to LeBron as well, to show that he is willing to cooperate.
