Sherman Speaks Out About Anthem Policy

Writer: Tony YasharTony Yashar

Former Seahawks cornerback and now a 49er, Richard Sherman has never been shy about speaking out concerning anything. So his criticism of Cowboys owner Jerry Jones should come as no surprise.

Sherman sounded off on the National Anthem policy, specifically aiming his ire towards the Cowboys owner’s position regardless of policy; he will require Cowboys players to stand at attention without respect to any possible protests.

Sherman referred to Jones perspective as a quote “plantation mentality” implying that Jones treats his players like slaves, with no freedom of expression or rights.

The new policy outlines provisions for each team to fine players who kneel or protest the National Anthem during NFL games. It gives the player the option to stay in the locker room during the anthem, but if a player comes on to the field he will be expected to stand for the anthem. If a player does not stand, the NFL will fine the team which then has the option to fine the player.

This policy has since been put on hold and is under review between the NFL and the NFL Players Association.
