For the first time since leaving the Cavaliers for the Lakers, LeBron James made a public statement concerning his departure during the grand opening of his I Promise School Monday in Akron, Ohio.

James, who has spent 11 years of his 15 years in the NBA as a member of the Cavaliers, spoke in front of the media concerning his departure. "Know no matter if I'm playing in Los Angeles or not, Akron, Ohio is always home for me. Always." James stated.
James also stated that he felt joining the Lakers was quote “the next step in my journey.” He will go down as not only one of the greatest players in NBA history but as the greatest athlete in Cleveland sports history. As the leader of the 2016 Cavaliers team that ended the cities 52 year championship drought James place in Ohio history has been solidified.
By not ruling out a return to Cleveland, he also has a chance to end his career the way he stated he envisioned doing so and that is by retiring as a Cavalier. LeBron signed a 4 year 154 million dollar contract with the Lakers at the age of 33, but with a player option after year 3. This gives him what may be his last opportunity to return to Cleveland. He has stated over the years that his goal is to play long enough to play in the league with his son who is now entering the 8th grade.
James will forever be loved in Cleveland and the championship he brought to the city far outweighs him departing again.
